Memorial Gallini and FIFA World Cup 2014 are closely linked.
Five Gallinizers indeed, have played at the last World Cup in Brasil.
One of them has also scored, he his Admir Mehmedi, now playing for Bayer Leverkusen. It was Switzerland-Ecuador, where the Bundesliga player has realized a classy header goal (you can see the video here) for the reds.
Mehmedi has played at the 2006 Memorial Gallini with FC Winterthur, a Swiss football team with a great youth tradition.
Another top player from Memorial Gallini is Mateo Kovacic. The Real Madrid champion has taken part to the World Cup 2014 with Croatia, playing in all the matches of his team. Mateo was a Dinamo Zagabria player at the 2009 Memorial Gallini tournament.
Also the N°1 FIFA Ranking National Team had a Gallinizer at the World Cup. He is Steven Defour, the most paid football player in Belgium, where he plays for Anderlecht. He played our tournament in 2003 with Mechelen an historical Belgian football Academy.
Japan played with not only one, but two Memorial Gallini players, Manubu Saito and Yoichiro Kakitani. The first athlete plays in the J1 League with Yokohama F. Marinos, Kakitani instead, plays in Europe with Basel.
Joel Obi was also called from Nigeria, but unfortunately he was’t in the final list of his National team. He came to our tournament in 2006 with FC Inter Milan.
We are proud that so many National teams from all around the world are enjoying the talent of our Gallinizers, and we are glad to see young top players growing from our tournament every year.
Who will be the next?
